Loss of Gun Rights
In Gun Cases

In Minnesota if you are convicted of a felony "crime of violence" you receive a lifetime ban from being able to possess firearms. Minn. Stat. 624.713. What is considered a "crime of violence" is determined by statute. Minn. Stat. 624.712 subd. 5. A few of the crimes connected with guns that result in lifetime bans are:

  1. 1st degree assault (Minn. Stat. 609.221)

  2. 2nd degree assault (Minn. Stat. 609.222)

  3. drive by shooting (Minn. Stat. 609.66)

  4. Unlawfully possessing a machine gun or sawed off shotgun (Minn. Stat. 609.67)

That list is not exhaustive. â€‹If you are being charged with a gun offense and are concerned about losing your gun rights you should contact a criminal defense attorney who focuses on defending gun cases.
